Amansie West excels in BECE

Manso-Nkwanta (Ash), Feb. 20, GNA- The Amansie West District of the Ashanti Region, placed 7th in the 2007 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) results league table prepared by the Ghana Education Service.

Mr Ben Kwakye Adeefe, the District Chief Executive (DCE), commended the teachers and staff of the district education directorate for their hard work, which resulted in the achievement.

The DCE, who was speaking at the 2007 District Best Teacher Awards ceremony on Wednesday, said the results had justified the huge investment made by the district assembly in the education sector. He said about 48 per cent of the assembly's annual budget was spent on the provision of educational infrastructure in the district and advised school children to study hard to justify the investment being made in their education.

The 19 teachers and non-teaching staff, who were awarded, received ghetto blasters, burner gas cookers and their accessories, books, certificates and cash.

Mrs Beatrice Boakye Ansah Prempeh, District Director of Education, said although untrained teachers far out numbered the trained ones, education had consistently improved over the last three years. He commended the district assembly, the Millennium Village Project, Amansie Rural Bank, Care International, a non-governmental organisation and Ghana Books Trust for supporting education in the district.
