Members of the Ghana Federation of Allied Health Professionals (GFAHP) have on Friday, 24 May 2019 called off their indefinite sit-down strike.

The strike was called off following a meeting with the Director General of the Ghana Health Service (GHS) and the Chief Director on Thursday [23 May 2019] night at the Ministry of Health.

Members of GFAHP declared an indefinite strike which began on Monday, 20 May 2019.

GFAHP said the strike had become necessary following the government’s failure to resolve its members’ grievances which have pended for two years.

The health professionals, in a statement, wondered why the governing board of the Allied Health Professions Council has “not been inaugurated after 29 months of its dissolution, especially in the light of the fact that all other health sector regulatory bodies have had their boards.”

They also said, “Nothing has been done with regard to the non-inclusion of the Allied Health Professionals in the proposed amendments to the Governing Boards of the Ghana Health Service and Teaching Hospital Act, 1996 (Act 525).”

The group has however said its decision to call off the sit-down strike is to allow the Ministry to implement the agreed roadmap.
