All is set for PNC national delegates congress at Sunyani

Sunyani, Feb. 3, GNA – All is set for the conduct of the national delegates congress of the People’s National Convention (PNC) at the Sunyani Polytechnic Auditorium this weekend.

More than 1,300 delegates are attending the congress and during a visit by the Ghana News Agency (GNA) to the auditorium, venue for the congress, the more than 4000 capacity edifice was ready and decorated with buntings of the party.

Miniature PNC flags, souvenirs and paraphernalia have also been hoisted on street light poles along the main principal street of the Brong Ahafo regional capital with some party supporters and sympathizers clad in party colours.

Petty traders and other food vendors have also capitalized on the congress and taken location at vantage points near the premises of the Polytechnic sell.

The congress’ atmosphere is relatively calm with normal economic activities and slow traffic jam in the Municipality.

Some of the delegates and other party big wigs have already arrived safely in Sunyani for the congress.

Mr. Atik, who is vying for the post of General Secretary, observed that poor organization characterized past PNC congresses but “all is set for the smooth conduct of the Sunyani congress”.

He entreated members, supporters and activists of the party to conduct themselves well and to avoid attitudes that could mar the congress.

Mr. Atik said research showed the PNC performed abysmally in the 2008 general election “because it failed to sell its ideas and philosophy” to the voters.

As a socialist party, there is the need for the PNC to educate the electorate especially those at the grassroots so that they would be well informed about its manifesto.

The policy analyst emphasized it was the sole responsibility of the delegates to decide who should lead the party in 2012 and advised them to vote for committed and loyal candidates to “rescue the party from the political grave
