All donations received for state funeral to be shared among victims' families - Chief of Staff

The Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, has directed that all donations given to the government to support the state funeral for the eight victims of the fatal helicopter crash is to be shared equally among the families of the victims.

The directive was communicated by the Deputy Chief of Staff in charge of Operations, Stanislav Xoese Dogbe during a press briefing at the Independence Square on Thursday, August 14, 2025.

Dogbe noted that the distribution of the items would be carried out accordingly and would commence on Thursday, to support the bereaved families.

He further disclosed that donations were generously made by some companies to support activities held in honour of the eight victims.

“I have been directed by the Chief of Staff to announce that a number of companies and individuals have made some donations of items, water, drinks, floral tissues and other things to the government for this funeral, and he has directed that all those items should be delivered to the eight families.

“So, right from this morning we are beginning the distribution of the items that we've received from a number of companies, Guinness Ghana Limited, Ghana Water Company Limited, Verna, Kasapreko Ghana Limited, Floral Tissue and others. I will be handing them over equally to the eight (8) families that lost their loved ones in the Wednesday, August 6 disaster,” he said.

Meanwhile, an inter-denominational and inter-faith state funeral will be held on Friday, August 15, 2025, to bid farewell to the eight individuals who lost their lives in the line of national duty.

The crash of the Z-9 helicopter, which belonged to the Ghana Armed Forces, claimed the lives of Minister of Defence,Dr Edward Omane Boamah, and Minister of Environment, Science, Technology and innovation Dr Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed.

Other victims include: Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator, Alhaji Mohammed Muniru Limuna; former Central Regional Minister, Samuel Sarpong and Samuel Aboagye, a former parliamentary candidate.

Members of the helicopter's crew are Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu and Sgt. Ernest Addo Mensah.
