All anomalies in Ashanti voter’s register corrected – Afari Gyan

The chairman of the Electoral Commission Kwadwo Afari Gyan says all the anomalies concerning certain missing names in the voter register in the Ashanti region have been rectified except one polling station.

According to Dr. Afari Gyan, only 20 out of the 4,700 polling centres in the region had problems with finding their names in the register.

Some voters in the region recently raised concerns about their missing names from the register.

The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) whose stronghold is the region raised suspicions about the problem.

But Dr Afari Gyan told GTV’s Election Platform programme on Thursday that all the alleged missing names except those in one polling station have been found.

“With regards to this biometric registration, Ashanti region had 4,072 centres and only 20 had problems, first of all what is the reason for exhibiting the register, if we had a perfect document we wouldn’t not go and put it there.

“As at yesterday, of the 20 that had problems in Ashanti only one was outstanding” Dr. Afari Gyan said.

Dr Afari Gyan also stuck to his guns about the creation of the 45 new constituencies few months ahead of the December elections.

He said he wouldn’t budge in undertaking what he described as the Commission’s constitutional mandate despite the avalanche of criticism.
