All Nations University to host African Universities Day

The All Nations University College (ANU), a private institution in Koforidua, in the Eastern Region, will host this year’s celebration of the African Universities Day.

The event, which falls on November 12, would be observed with a public lecture on the theme: “How can African Universities Enhance Capacity for Job Creation.”

A statement from the Association of African Universities (AAU) to the GNA on Tuesday, said the Day is held annually and participating institutions commemorate it with various activities.

The Association of African Universities (AAU) is made up of both public and private universities in Africa and aimed, among others, to create a common platform for the use of higher education to solve the continent's challenges.

The statement said since 2000, both the secretariat of the AAU in Accra, and the secretariat of the Vice Chancellors in Ghana (VCG) had jointly organised events to commemorate the day.

The statement entreated every university and tertiary institution in Africa to celebrate the occasion by organizing a suitable forum for public dialogue, as a means of raising awareness of the critical issues surrounding the theme of this year’s event.

Sub topics to be discussed at the event would include: "what should be the role of African higher education institutions in promoting graduate employ-ability and the kind of interaction that exists between universities, institutions and society as a whole in order to achieve sustainable development."

According to the statement, various universities in Ghana had hosted the Ghana event over the years including the University of Ghana (UG), University of Education, Winneba (UEW), University of Cape-Coast (UCC), Central University College (CUC), and the University of Professional Studies (UPS).
