Two people are reported dead and several others injured in gun exchange between military and some residents in Alavanyo.

The town has seen recurrent conflict over a parcel of land that has led to several loss of lives and property with its attendant curfew.

Though it’s unclear what led to Monday morning’s incident, its alleged that the police went to Alavanyo Dzogbedze to effect some arrests, an act the community’s youth did not take kindly to, and managed to rescue the two who were arrested from the police, and even made away with some handcuffs.

A reinforced joint Police-Military force under the leadership of ASP Asifri who is in charge of the Alavanyo Nkunya Peace Keeping unit stationed in Nkunya, returned to Alavanyo Dzogbefe and allegedly shot into the crowd, and killed one Atta Kofi, a native of Alavanyo, and one Confidence who is said to be a native of Anfoe Wodemaxe.

Seven more people are reported to have sustained various degrees of injuries and are currently receiving treatment in Kpando.

Assemblyman for the area, Raymond Tsorkor confirmed the incident to classFM online.
