Alan camp fires ‘warlord’ Bugri Naabu

Attempts by the Northern Regional Chairman of the main opposition New Patriotic Party to hound Delegates who did not vote for two-time presidential candidate, Nana Akufo-Addo, in last Sunday’s mini congress, smacks of jungle tactics, the camp of one of the contenders has said.

“You don’t operate like a warlord in NPP”, Nana Ohene Ntow said Monday.

“We don’t do that. People cannot behave like the NPP is operating in the jungle. We do not operate by the laws of the jungle”, the former General Secretary said in reference to an earlier attempt by Daniel Bugri Naabu, to form an investigative committee, to fish out four Delegates, who voted for Kyeremanten in last Sunday’s mini congress, which was held simultaneously across the country, to whittle down the number of aspirants from seven to five.

No sooner had Naabu made the comment than he beat a hasty retreat through a statement to say he was just joking when he said the ‘treacherous’ Alan Supporters, who breached an oath to vote for Nana Akufo-Addo, would be smoked out and penalised.

In that statement, Naabu said: “I would like to place on record that my light-hearted attempt at humour has been misconstrued and in that regard I unconditionally withdraw those comments, which were meant to be in jest”.

“I have no authority to set up a committee to investigate who did or did not vote for a particular candidate and so no such committee can or will be set up”, Naabu said in his volte-face.

“Furthermore, no oaths were sworn to coerce people to vote for Nana Akufo-Addo. I am a democrat and part of a party that believes in democracy. We believe in the right of every individual to exercise their democratic rights”, he clarified.

Despite his retraction and clarification, Ohene Ntow told private FM station, Citi, Monday that the behaviour of Naabu cannot be tolerated in a democratic party like the NPP.
