Alan Kyeremateng resigns again

Nana Akufo-Addo might soon have to end his prayers in London and make his intentions known to the rank and file of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

This is because John Alan Kwadwo Kyeremateng is about quitting his lucrative international job with the African Union (AU) office at Ethiopia to pursue his dream of becoming the fifth President of the Republic of Ghana on the vacant NPP flagbearer ticket for 2016.

Alan Kyerematen who is currently playing a key role in shaping Africa’s trade Policy agenda in multilateral negotiations with the World Trade Organization (WTO) and the European Union, as well as the African Caribbean, Economic Partnership is said to have jet to Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia over the weekend to file his resignations.

The former Ghana’s Ambassador to the United States of America (USA) and onetime Minister of Trade, Industry and Presidential Special Initiatives (PSI), was in town last week and had a series of meetings with some NPP youth, he had commissioned to work on the quiet for him to challenge Nana Addo over the 2016 flagbearer slot.

Mr. Kyeremanteng, is said to have started consultations when the Supreme Court, presided over by Justice William Atuguba dismissed the Election Petition brought before it by the twice defeated presidential candidate Nana Akufo-Addo, his running mate, Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia and the National Chairman, Mr. Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey

Mr. Kyeremateng’s lobbyists, The Herald learnt, have been meeting some key stakeholders of the party, as well as, some newspaper editors to sell the idea of changing the face of the party come 2016 by replacing Nana Addo as flagbearer since he does not appeal to many voters.

Nana Addo is likely to be the oldest Presidential Candidate to vie for the Presidency at 72, come December 2016 if he wins the NPP’s flagbearership contest.

The Herald has picked information that supporters of Mr. kyeremateng are busy printing T’ shirts and other paraphernalia at a printing house in Kaneshie, with the inscription “Alan for 2016”.

Meanwhile, Mr. Phillip London, a Special Aide to the NPP flagbearer aspirant, has told an Accra-based radio station, Asempa FM, that Alan’s face will appear on the NPP’s ballot paper to elect a flagbearer for the 2016 Presidential elections.

Aside Mr. Kyeremanteng and Nana Addo, Mr. Joe Ghartey, Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament and Member of Parliament (MP) for Essikado Ketan Constituency in the Western Region, Dan Kweku Botwe, MP for Okere Constituency in the Eastern Region and Isaac Osei, MP for Subin Constituency in the Ashanti Region and one time CEO of COCOBOD, are said to be interested.

Even though, Dan Botwe has been assigned a more formidable role in Parliament, the information from insiders say he is still enjoying some high points in the party, having once served as General Secretary. His tenure twice ensured victory for the party.

Others also interested are; Dr. Kofi Konadu Apraku, Nana Addo’s 2008 campaign manager and onetime Minister for Trade and Industry in the ex-President John Agyekum Kufour’s administration and Prof. Frimpong Boateng, a lecturer at the Ghana Medical School (GMS) and a former Director at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital’s (KBTH) Cardiothoracic Centre.
