Member of Parliament for Akyem Swedru, Kennedy Osei Nyarko, has claimed that the ruling NDC-government does not have a budgetary allocation for the construction of their much-touted Accra-Kumasi expressway project.
He argued that a project of such magnitude should have a clear roadmap detailing how the government will execute it, but he has not seen an allocation for it in the budget.
Speaking on Okay FM’s Ade Akye Yen Bia on March 25, 2026, Osei Nyarko contended that if the government has huge sums of money earmarked for the construction of roads in the country, it could prioritise ongoing works on the current Accra-Kumasi Road to facilitate movement on that stretch.
Dr Ato Forson exposes Asenso-Boakye's opposition to Accra-Kumasi Expressway
“I don’t have anything against the new Accra-Kumasi expressway project. Indeed, the project if executed to completion will slash travel time and ease on the route that will link the two major cities. So, this is something that no one will oppose, but there is no allocation for the Accra-Kumasi Expressway in the budget.
“Considering the fact that the route and the magnitude of the six-lane road project will pass through some populated towns at certain points, they will have to pull down some structures to accommodate the major infrastructure.
“Where will they get the funds to even compensate owners of the affected buildings and execute this project when there is no stated source of funding for this project?” he asked.
He, has however, stated that the government should consider prioritising existing ongoing works to improve road networks arguing that he doubts that the expressway can even be completed within 12 months.
