The Akyem Kotoku Palace in the Eastern Region was filled with colour and rich tradition on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, as close to a thousand people assembled for a significant State Council meeting.
The ceremony was marked by the elevation of several chiefs, notably the youthful Nwinsohene, Baffuor Yeboah Osei Hwedie II, to the distinguished rank of Obrempong.
Enstooled on 14 April 2025 as Chief of Nwinso, Baffuor Yeboah Osei Hwedie II has, within less than a year, earned commendation for his dedication and tangible contributions to the Akyem Kotoku State. His efforts attracted the attention of the Overlord, His Gracious Majesty Oseadeeyo Dr. Frimpong Manso IV.
While conferring the revered Obrempong title on him, the Overlord praised his character and loyalty, describing him as selfless and committed to the progress of the State. He expressed confidence in the chief’s readiness to defend and advance the cause of Akyem Kotoku with utmost dedication.
Traditionally, the Obrempong title is reserved for chiefs who have demonstrated exceptional leadership, loyalty, and service over a decade or more. That the honour was bestowed on Baffuor Osei Hwedie II less than a year after his enstoolment underscores the significance of his contributions and the confidence reposed in him.
Known in private life as Prince Owusu Yeboah, Obrempong Yeboah Osei Hwedie II received his secondary education at Apam Senior High School between 2000 and 2002 before obtaining a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Cape Coast from 2003 to 2007. He undertook his national service with the Ghana Revenue Authority before moving into the private sector.
Between 2011 and 2017, he served as a station manager with Union Oil. He currently holds the position of Director of Marketing at IBM, an oil marketing company in Ghana, where he is recognised for strategic leadership and innovation.
Chiefs present at the ceremony congratulated the newly elevated Obrempong and encouraged him to sustain his service to the State.
His elevation not only recognises past achievements but also signals heightened expectations as he assumes greater responsibility within the traditional leadership of Akyem Kotoku.
Observers will keenly follow his tenure and the impact of his expanded role.
