The Ghana Police Service (GPS) has cautioned individuals against attempts to incite or engage in acts that could cause trouble during the Akwatia by-election.
Speaking to the media in a video shared by GHOne TV on Facebook on Monday, September 1, 2025, the Director of Public Affairs, ACP Grace Ansah-Akrofi, stated that the service will take lawful actions against anyone found culpable of causing trouble.

“… We also once again want to throw a word of caution to those who want to foment trouble that we are prepared for you and we'll deal with you according to the law,” she cautioned.
ACP Ansah-Akrofi also stated that the police are fully committed and ready to ensure law and order are maintained at Akwatia, and that the polls proceed peacefully.
She indicated that, as part of police efforts, adequate preparations have been made in terms of logistics and the deployment of police personnel in Akwatia.
“The Ghana Police Service has deployed massively to Akwatia and our objective is to ensure that the election proceeds smoothly and we have a peaceful by-election. We are here to ensure the security of every person in Akwatia, including every person who will go out on the election day to vote.

“… our men are on the ground. Adequate vehicles have been deployed, our mobile patrol teams are on, the Black Maria is also available and that is our mobile cells. We are here to ensure that everyone is safe,” she added.
The Akwatia by-election, scheduled for Tuesday, September 2, 2025, follows the passing of the sitting Member of Parliament, Ernest Kumi, who reportedly died after a short illness.
