The New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Organizer, Sammy Awuku has debunked claims in a publication by The Punch newspaper about President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, which to Mr. Awuku are falsehood and deserve to be disregarded.

The Punch newspaper published in its Monday edition under the headline “2020 Race: Nana President Opts Out It’s Official! Shocking Revelation From Harvard” stressing the President has openly declared his intention to not contest the 2020 Presidential elections.

The newspaper purported that President Akufo-Addo, delivering a speech to mark his 75th birthday at the Kennedy Institute of Politics at the Harvard University, stated “he will be speaking in Chicago and hope to take up more of such speaking engagements after he has left the Jubilee house voluntarily.”

Reacting to the publication on Okay FM’s “Ade Akye Abia” programme, Mr. Awuku stated emphatically that the President has not made any declaration to that effect and therefore urged Ghanaians to wait for the opening of the Presidential nominations to testify whether or not President Akufo-Addo is bowing out of the elections.

“...to the best of my knowledge the President is contesting for his second term,” he however confirmed.

“Until the road map for 2020 nomination is approved by the National Steering Committee, National Executive Committee, National Council of Elders and National Delegates Conference opens, we cannot decide for the President but I am confident that NPP is taking President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo into 2020 Presidential election when the road map of the Presidential primaries is open in the party today”, he added.
