Akufo-Addo storms Manhyia

The 2012 flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, will be the guest of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi, the Ashanti Regional capital, on Wednesday.

The NPP top man, who returned from London recently after six months of sojourn, would be at the Palace to greet the occupant of the Golden Stool.

The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP, Bernard Antwi- Boasiako, said that Nana Addo would take advantage of the ‘Awukudae’ festival, taking place at the Palace, to pay homage to Otumfuo.

Affectionately called ‘Wontumi,’ the Ashanti Regional Chairman said Nana Akufo-Addo would use the visit to inform Otumfuo and Asanteman about his return to the country after six months stay in London.

He said the 2012 NPP presidential candidate would then listen to the usual wise and inspirational words from Otumfuo Osei Tutu after which he would leave the Palace and engage himself in other activities in the city.

Wontumi said Nana Akufo-Addo would then move through the principal streets of Kumasi, the heartbeat of the NPP, in an open vehicle so that the people, especially the numerous NPP faithful, could catch a glimpse of him.

He told DAILY GUIDE that Nana Akufo-Addo’s convoy would pass through Ash Town, Manhyia, Kejetia, Central Market, Adum, the central business district of the city, among other notable places.

Throwing more light on Nana Akufo-Addo’s visit to Kumasi, the NPP Regional Chairman said Nana and his entourage would arrive at the Kumasi Airport by 2:00 pm on Tuesday, adding that the party would accord him a rousing welcome.

Wontumi explained that from the airport Nana and his retinue would head for a location in the city where he would brief the regional and the constituency executives of the party about his mission.

They would then surface at the Manhyia Palace the following day.
