The Leader and Founder of Ghana Freedom Party (GFP), Madam Akua Donkor lashed out at the President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for refusing to talk about her achievements in Canada considering the fact she is one of the women in the country have made giant strides in the political landscape.

The President speaking during Women Deliver 2019 Conference in Vancouver, Canada said Ghanaian women have done little to deserve a place in national decision making due to a lack of dynamism.

“We are not seeing enough dynamism and activism on the part of those who are seeking. I am talking about dynamism where it matters…electing people to Parliament, controlling political parties because they are the instruments by which our societies make decisions.

“We are talking about decisions, not wishes and hopes, we are talking about decisions that are going to make the difference,” President Akufo-Addo said.

But Madam Akua Donkor said President Akufo-Addo should have been proud about the successes she has chalked in the political space by citing her as an example during his speech.

According to her, the President should have used her as yardstick to talk about her achievements for being the only illiterate woman to have set up a political party.

She stressed that majority of Ghanaian women have risen to the top through hard work and they need to be recognized as such advising the President to stop speaking ill of women.

She underscored that her feat is remarkable and should be given an award citing the former first Lady and founder of National Democratic Party (NDP) who could not maintain her political party but she has been on the forefront of politics all these years with her party still in existence.

Speaking on Kumasi-based Abusua FM monitored by MyNewsGh.com, Madam Akua Donkor said, ‘Akufo-Addo should have mentioned my name and talked about my achievements in Canada, he should have told them that though I’m illiterate, I’m courageous and with God’s blessings have been able to set up a political party. He should have cited me as one of the women who have made marks in their area of endeavours. He should be proud that an illiterate woman like me have set up a political party, it has never happened in the World before. Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings couldn’t even maintain her party, but I have been able to maintain mine, he should be happy and proud about my achievements’.

Madam Akua Donkor stated that the President’s statement was in bad taste adding that he is not happy about her achievements because they are from different political parties hence his failure to cite her as an example.

‘I want the World to know that Akufo-Addo’s statement was in bad taste, he’s not happy for me because we are from different political parties and there is no love among politicians so he didn’t see the need to cite me as an example and shower praises on me,’ She said in the interview monitored by MyNewsGh.com.

The Leader and Founder of GFP indicated that her party is more recognized than the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and largest opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) explaining that they all came to power through coups.

‘My achievement is remarkable, few men have been able to do this, my party is more recognised than NDC, NPP because Ghana’s former Presidents such as the father of Akufo-Addo, Jerry John Rawlings assumed office through coups, they didn’t go through any hustle of signing documents to form political parties,’ she asked in the interview monitored by MyNewsGh.com.
