National Democratic Congress (NDC) lawmaker for Tamale Central Constituency, Hon. Innusah Fusieni has said, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s answer to whether he will lead a path to champion the legalization of homosexuality in Ghana is perfect despite the twists and spin put into it by propagandists.

In his view, President Akufo-Addo communicated well-using statistics and phrases “it is bound to happen” when interviewed on the country’s position on decriminalizing homosexuality.

“He used statistics to answer the questions…he said that if the coalition becomes strong enough it is bound to happen…..he did not say a strong coalition”, the lawmaker and private legal practitioner stressed.

“A politician who is looking at the political fallouts with dynamics in the country will use political statistics to answer such a question”, Hon. Inusa Fusieni spoke on Joy FM’s Newsfile last Saturday.

Speaking to Aljazeera’s Jane Dutton the President Akufo-Addo said the country’s culture and tradition for now does not allow the legalisation of homosexuality but was quick to add that if public opinion changes, the law may just be amended.

“This is a social, cultural issue, I don’t believe that in Ghana so far, a sufficiently strong coalition has emerged which is having that impact on public opinion that will say ‘change it, let’s now have a new paradigm in Ghana.’

General Secretary of Christian Council, Rev Dr Kwabena Opuni Frimpong fears that if pressure is piled on government by advocates of homosexuality, it may cause a change in the law and the legalisation of homosexuality.

Pressure is, however, mounting on the President following an indication given the country’s position on homosexuality act could change if there is strong advocacy.
