Akufo-Addo’s Central Tour Ends With Mass Endorsements

The 2008 presidential candidate of the NPP, and a leading contender in the race to elect the party’s flag bearer for the 2012 elections, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has brought to a successful close, his campaign tour of the Central region. It was the first region he toured as part of his first steps to bringing back hope to the Ghanaian people.

The Central regional tour ended at Saltpond, where Nana Addo and his campaign team met with delegates of the Mfantseman West constituency. It was the 19th and last constituency, but certainly not the least as it attracted arguably the biggest crowd during his tour of the central region. A large crowd of party supporters gave Nana Addo and his Victory 2012 campaign team a heroic welcome when they met them at the entrance of the town. In a very joyous mood, backed by an excited brass band, the people of Saltpond ushered Nana Addo and his team slowly and ceremoniously into the town and moved with him to the premises of the Methodist Senior High School where Nana Addo met with the delegates.

In a speech, Nana Addo noted that bringing his tour of the region to a close in Saltpond, can by no means be an accident. “Saltpond is the spiritual home of our tradition and this is where our party was formed. I am impressed with the massive support you have shown me today, and I am confident that together, in unity and by the Grace of God, we will make it back to power with me as the presidential candidate of our party”, he told them.

“You are the people who do the leg work of our party, selling the presidential candidate and taking our message of hope to all corners of our country. It is important therefore that you have a say in electing the presidential candidate that you will be marketing to the good people of this country and that is why I supported the expansion of the Electoral College to include you, polling station executives, and the spirit in this room today, tells me that it was a worthy cause”, Nana Addo noted.

He called for a united NPP and pleaded that the campaigning process should be devoid of personal attacks and insults.

The Central regional tour of Nana Akufo-Addo was marked by endorsements from founding fathers of the NPP, party apparatchiks, and delegates. At Senya Breku, a founding father of the NPP, Mr. Haruna Esseku, joined the Victory-2012 team and implored delegates to vote for Nana Addo to help the party win victory in 2012.

Endorsements also came from other party big wigs as Prof. Dominic Fobih, MP for Assin South, K. T. Hammond, MP for Adansi Asokwa, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, MP for Assin North, Mr. Charles Bintim, former local Government minister and former MP for Sabooba, P. C. Appiah-Ofori, MP for Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa, Isaac Edumadze, former Central regional Minister and former MP for Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam, Christine Churcher, former Minister of Education and three times MP for Cape Coast, Catherine Ablema Afeku, MP for Evalue Gwira, Nana Ato-Arthur, former Central regional minister, Kwabena Okaakyire, former MP for Nkawkaw, Sam Kwam, former MP for Gomoa East, Oppey Abbey, former MP for Awutu Senya, Samuel Owusu Agyei, former MP for Efutu constituency, Rita Asobayire, former Womens organiser, and Frances Essiam, Communications officer for Adenta Constituency, among others.

The victory 2012 campaign team of Nana Akufo-Addo includes among others, Mr. Boakye Agyarko as Campaign manager, Mr. Yaw Osaafo Marfo, Kwamena Bartels, Mustapha Hamid, Dominic Nitiwul, MP for Bimbila, Isaac Asiamah, MP for Atwima Mponua, Kwabena Okyere Darko, MP for Takoradi, Herbert Krapa, Titus-Glover, Bryan Acheampong, Kofi Amankwah Manu and Martin Adjei-Mensah.

Nana Akufo-Addo is expected to storm the Western region on Sunday, 2nd May, starting with the Mpohor Wassa, Shama and Sekondi constituencies.
