Akufo-Addo running a ‘Kweku Ananse’ government – Anyidoho

From pledges to policies and programs, from all indications, President Akufo-Addo and his cohorts are running a ‘Kweku Ananse’ government, this is the stance of Deputy General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress, Koku Anyidoho.

For him, the ruling government has proven beyond doubts to be one whose dealings are shrouded in ‘lies and contradictions, one who has consistently failed its citizens on very key promises it made to earn the trust of these same persons.

Citing the DKM refund promise and voters register revision as examples, Mr. Anyidoho on ’21 Minutes with KKB’ labelled the NPP as an opportunist government which made statements and promises prior to the 2016 elections to earn the favor and trust of Ghanaians when they knew such statements were mere utterances with little or no substance.

President Akufo-Addo, then a candidate in the lead up to the 2016 general elections emphasized the need for Ghana to revise the existing voter’s register to avoid the situation where registered foreign nationals are allowed to vote in national elections. This was after the NPP had alleged that some 80,000 Togolese Nationals had been identified as having been registered onto the country's electoral roll.

Koku Anyidoho speaking on the subject said he is baffled at the ‘sudden’ silence on the issue after then candidate Akufo-Addo and his running mate Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia won the elections since the odds worked in their favour.

On the DKM issue, Koku Anyidoho recalled how the then opposition candidate promised to retrieve monies of victims if given the nod by the electorate but more than a year since his assumption of office, the several thousands who lost their monies are yet to receive a dime. Akufo-Addo had promised saying, “If before the conduct of the December 7 election, President Mahama’s government is unable to retrieve your monies from DKM and others for you, I can assure you that God willing when I win, I will retrieve your monies for you”.



An unimpressed Anyidoho noted how a year and months on after this promise, these customers have still not been attended to, the issue as a matter of fact has been ‘quietened’

“Then candidate Akufo-Addo went to the UK and said that our register has become an ECOWAS register because its full of neighbouring nationals, today he is President and Bawumia is vice, is it the foreign nationals who voted for them?, they were just looking for power. DKM, God is love, when we come we’ll pay you, have they paid them? They haven’t paid”, he said.

The recent announcement of a 17.5% and 30% reduction in electricity tariffs on March 15 for homes and businesses respectively was also touched on by the NDC firebrand. The decision to begin implementation of the tariffs on April 1 instead of the initial March 15 he says is clear indication of deceit and confusion in the ruling government.



“PURC comes out with something, they say it was going to start 15th March, now they say it’s going to start on 1st April, April fools day! This government oh my goodness, Kweku Ananse, this Kweku Ananse government, Ntinkumah and Naa Kowhea government”, he stated.
