The Member of Parliament (MP) for Sagnarigu Constituency in the Northern Region, Alhaji A.B.A Fuseini, has described President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s promise to construct 88 new district hospitals and six new regional hospitals within a year as deadly than Coronavirus.

According to him, this promise does not carry any iota of credibility because similar promises have remained unfulfilled including the 350 secondary school project they promised before the assumption of office.

The government of Ghana announced plans to construct 88 new district hospitals and six new regional hospitals within a year during his 8th nation address on COVID-19.

President Akufo-Addo said that this is a major investment his government has taken within the country’s healthcare infrastructure and it is by far the largest in the history of the country.

“There are 88 districts in our country without district hospitals; we have six new regions without regional hospitals; we do not have five infectious disease control centres dotted across the country, and we do not have enough testing and isolation centers for diseases like COVD-19. We must do something urgently about this,” Akufo-Addo stated during his eighth Coronavirus address to the nation broadcasted on TV.

Speaking to the issues, A.B.A Fuseini said, “This promise is deadly than coronavirus. How can you say you want to embark on this project after wasting 3 and a half years in office? What have you been doing? This shows the government doesn’t have any commitment in health project. Coronavirus has exposed them. This promise is poisonous and more deadly than coronavirus. These people (Akufo-Addo government) couldn’t fulfill the 350 schools they promised during their own campaign. They are just full of lies and deception.” He said.

Alhaji A.B.A Fuseini, also disputed claims by the Minister of Health that the Akufo-Addo government has not abandoned health projects started by the erstwhile Mahama administration.

He insists that health project have been abandoned including the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC) which was only utilized during the Coronavirus pandemic after public outcry.

He, however, challenged government to come out with a full list of health projects they have completed since they assumed office.

“What did they do to complete the project? This government is full of lies. He should name at least one project they have completed. They can’t boast of at least one health project under their administration. Look at the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC); they started using it after an uproar by the NDC and public. They promised 350 schools during their campaign it’s over 3 years what have they done? Nothing. Now you want to promise us 94 hospitals within a year. The Akufo-Addo government is full of lies they shouldn’t be taken seriously,” he added.
