Akufo-Addo ‘over-assured’ Delta Force – NDC activist

Delta force resort to violence to register their displeasure Delta force resort to violence to register their displeasure

Members of the Delta Force, a private security arm within the New Patriotic Party (NPP), have been on rampage lately following the failure of the governing party to meet the numerous assurances given to them during the 2016 electoral campaign, Yaw Appiah Kubi, a member of the communications team of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has said.

According to him, members of the group who were arrested for attacking the Ashanti Regional Security Coordinator, George Agyei, felt they have been used and dumped, hence their resort to violence to register their displeasure.

Some 13 members of the group were put before a Kumasi Circuit Court for attacking Mr Agyei, however, their supporters stormed the court to free them. The 13 subsequently reported themselves to the police for the trial to continue. They have since been granted bail together with their supporters who stormed the court.

Speaking on the development as he assessed the president’s performance in his first 100 days in office, Mr Kubi said: “The onus is on the president [to deal with the situation] because he is the Commander-in-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces. It is his appointment that is the origin of all these things.

“There is the need for proper management of party people, management of their expectations. I think that they (NPP) over-assured people in the run-up to the elections. When you listen to the commentary from these people they said that they were assured.

“I am hoping that the judicial system will be one that will bring a certain punishment that Ghanaians will be happy with. I don’t think that at the end of the day it should just be a formality.”
