Akufo-Addo lays first stone for new France embassy building

President Akufo-Addo today cut the sod for the construction of the new French embassy in Accra.

At the ceremony for the laying of the first stone for the new chancery for the French embassy in Accra, President Akufo-Addo pledged to ensure the continuous strengthened relationship between Ghana and France through the securement of relevant investments from the French in Ghana.

President Akufo-Addo acknowledged Ghana’s growing cordial and bilateral relations, attributing it to a shared vision and belief of both countries in democracy, human rights and the rule of law. He also commended France for their continuous investments in health, water, agriculture supply and telecommunication in the country and assured support from Ghana where necessary.

French Ambassador Francois Pujolas on the other hand indicated that the ceremony represents the confidence France has in the future of its relations and is symbolic since it coincides with the celebration of Ghana’s 60th anniversary and marks 60 years of friendship between both countries.



The new chancery for the French Embassy scheduled to be completed in 18 months will replace the already existing one next to the Flagstaff House. There were security concerns after the Flagstaff house was built next to the existing French embassy under the Kufour government.



The new edifice will be built next to the residence of the French Ambassador in Cantonments.
