Akufo-Addo lacks the courage to fight corruption – MP taunts

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo

The Akufo-Addo-led government has now reduced the corruption fight into statements without concrete action, the Member of Parliament for Adaklu Constituency in the Volta Region, Kwame Governs Agbodza assessed.

He also taunted the government of coiling without the political will to tackle corruption associated with officials in his government.

Mr. Agbodza was contributing to a discussion on TV3’s New Day hosted by Bright Nana Amfoh on Monday, following calls by the Center for Democratic Development-Ghana (CDD-Ghana) on government to take decisive action on fight against corruption in the country.

“They have no interest in punishing their own who are corrupt. The Akufo-Addo government does not have the courage for the fight against corruption”, the NDC MP stated.

He recalled that prior to the elections in 2016, the NPP “gave perceptions to the people that when they come, [corruption] will not happen, but they came and look at what is happening”.

The MP remarked, “fighting corruption is an action. It is not about making statements on platforms. This government only talks about it”.

Meanwhile, the Member of Parliament for Assin South Constituency in the Central Region, Rev John Ntim Fordjour, sees nothing wrong with government prosecuting former government appointees found to have been involved in corruption.

“Corruption has been in the country for centuries and it is important that any action being taken to deal with it is supported. If we are able to plug the loopholes, it would help”, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) MP noted.
