Captain Edmund Koda (rtd)head of security of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, has sounded the alarm bell, warning that the life of Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo is in danger as some people are planning to assassinate him ahead of this year’s general election.

His revelation comes at the time the former first lady and National Democratic Party (NDP) founder Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, has also raised an alarm over a threat to her life.

According to Capt Koda, the NPP flagbearer has been placed on the radar of assassins, for which reason he and his men were seeking to increase protection around the opposition party’s leader.

‘‘Our resolve to protect Nana Akuffo-Addo is still on course and intact. We will not sit down for anybody to come and kill Akuffo-Addo. People have said they will come and kill him and we are leaving no chance,’’ Capt Koda, said in an interview with Hello FM in Kumasi yesterday. The head of the NPP flagbearer’s security detail was explaining the circumstances leading to the arrest and detention of a personal photographer and a private bodyguard of Nana Addo by the operatives of the Bureau of National Investigations(BNI).

Kwadwo Kyeremeh and Malik Neequaye were detained Tuesday evening after they refused to fill ‘‘personality profile’’ forms that were said to be meant for suspects who had been taken into the custody at the BNI. They had accompanied Captain Edmund Koda to the BNI office to witness the recovery of some security items, 11 missile detector, which were taken from Capt Koda’s residence some weeks ago during a raid by the BNI operatives.

The search was occasioned by Capt Koda’s engagement with the three South African security experts who were brought into the country by the NPP to train Nana Akuffo-Addo’s personal guard but were deported to their native country.

Capt Koda added that they were determined to protect Nana Addo from any possible attempt on his life and would use any available legitimate means to shield him from danger or injury.

‘The people who raided the NPP headquarters declared that their next target is Nana Addo residence. We heard it from their mouths that they will kill him.

We can’t sit down for people to come and kill him; not at all.’’ Capt Koda indicated and added that they who were in charge of security were resolute and determined to give Akuffo-Addo the needed protection.

He dared those people to make any attempt on Nana Addo;s life and they would ‘‘met their metre,’’ pointing out that their private security arrangement of the opposition leader equally had the men to counteract any aggressive force.

Capt Koda asked the public not to worry as they were up to the task to shield Nana Addo from danger while discounting the assertion that the training of the private security personnel of the NPP presidential candidate was a breach of the laws of the country.

‘Don’t teachers and doctors go for refresher courses? Is there anything wrong with professionals going for refresher courses outside? We are ready to give Nana Addo the needed protection and we will go all out,’’ he stated.

KONADU

Some persons are said to be planning to assassinate former first lady Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings.

The allegation was made at a press conference in Accra yesterday by members of the friend of Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings(FONKAR), led by Ernest Oduro, who is the Communication Director of the group and Joseph Bediako, National Coordinator.

They claimed the plot was been hatched by agents of the ruling National Democratic Congress(NDC) following her constant criticism of the Mahama government.

‘‘They think she is a threat to their success in the upcoming elections so they want to use whatever it means to eradicate this woman,’’ Ernest Oduro told the media.

He narrated a series of events which, according to him pointed to the claim of FONKAR.

REASON

According to him,’ since the formation of the National Democratic Party (NDP), the ruling party has always felt we are a threat to them and they have found every possible mean to oppress us and having failed on those countless occasions, our leader has now become the target.’’

First, he recalled, was at Cape Coast Town Hall on September 17,2011 where Mrs. Rawlings was nearly attacked by some thugs alleged to have been hired by the former Central Regional Minister and her agents.’’

That he said, was when some heavily-built young men besieged the premises hired for the ‘’thank you tour’ programme ‘‘ostensibly to cause mayhem with no invitation.’’

According to FONKAR, they later resulted to insults on radio and other media platform which became a competition, with those who were able to insult the more being honored with ministerial appointments and other juicy portfolios.
Also. In January this year, Mr.Oduro revealed,’ a man who hails from Tumu in the Sissala East District of the Upper East Region visited her disguised as an insane person hovering around the office premises.’’

Luckily, he indicated ‘This supposed madman never got the chance to deliver whichever venom he was carrying.’’

‘Just last week,’’ Konadu loyalist continued, this supposed madman visited again and he was prevented from entering the premises.’’

PLOY

‘Having failed in their earlier madman decoy, they changed the tactics and they introduced another young man who visited ,Madam’s quite recently, insisting that he wanted to have a tête-à-tête,’’ he noted.

The Konadu boy disclosed that even though the person was said to have insisted,’’ We stood our ground and did not allow him to see madam because we suspected him of some negative intentions.’’

According to the FONKAR Communication Director, when persuasion failed, the gentleman, whose name was given as Roger Azamati, left the office and when he was been escorted to his car, he pulled a pistol from his suitcase and dropped it in his unregistered VW vehicle.

Attempts to speak to Azamati, who they said is a National Security Operative at the Flagstaff house, to ascertain the level of truth or otherwise of the allegation through a telephone number said to be proved unsuccessful sine the calls went into a voicemail.

Even though the gentleman is said to have come out to admit visiting the former first lady, he is also reported to have denied any intention to kill her.
