The Akuapem South District Assembly is to sanction teachers in the District who absent themselves from school without permission.

The Assembly would also reward schools that would place first in the West Africa Senior High School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) with GHC10,000 as a measure of improving the standard of education in the District.

Mr Frank Aidoo, the District Chief Executive (DCE), disclosed this at the launch of the 10th Anniversary Celebration of the enstoolment of Oyeeman Nana Kwasi Ankrah III as the chief of Kitase-Mpeduase near Aburi in the Eastern Region.

The Anniversary is on the theme: “Enhancing the Gateway to Akuapem: A National and Community Responsibility.’’

Activities planned for the celebration include Sanitation and Tree Planting Day, and Mothers and Fathers’ Day.

Mr Aidoo said for the Community to become the gateway to Akuapem, the people must to take education, health and sanitation issues seriously.

He, therefore, charged parents to take active interest in the education of their children so they would grow to become useful citizens.

He said the Assembly would supply the Community with dustbins to improve upon the sanitation situation.

Mr Aidoo urged the youth to take advantage of the Nation Builders Corps (NaBCO) initiated by the Government and register for employment.

He said the Assembly had secured funding to provide a sports complex to promote sporting activities in the District and urged the youth to form sporting teams to make it vibrant.

The DCE commended Oyeeman Nana Ankrah for single-handedly initiating a number of projects for the community, which include a Police Station and Recreational Centre.

Mr Freddie Blay, the Acting Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), urged the chiefs to avoid chieftaincy disputes and unite to ensure the development of the community.

Oyeeman Nana Kwasi Ankrah, on his part, urged the people to support him to bring development to the area.
