Akosua Manu, an NPP Communicator and aid to Dr Mahamudu Bawumia the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has criticised the Minister of Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovation, Samuel Nartey George, accusing him of undermining the SIM registration milestones achieved by his predecessor, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful.
Contributing to the debate on the impending SIM re-registration intended to fix the challenges of the 2021–2023 SIM registration exercise on TV3's The Keypoints on March 21, 2026, she slammed the Ningo Prampram MP for not acknowledging the immense contribution made by Owusu-Ekuful during the previous exercise.
“This is the woman on whose shoulders you stand today to conduct your SIM re-registration. She laid the foundation and gathered biometric data the telcos you’re working with to update the system are using. If you will not praise her for the work she has done, don’t dent her image and make her appear as though she were incompetent,” she argued.

Sam George who was on the same show swiftly reacted to her remarks stating that he would not give credits for a project shambolically executed.
“When you talk about someone like Marietta Brew, we call her competent because she actually led a legal team to win the Ghana-Ivory Coast maritime boundary case. Ursula Owusu-Ekuful attempted the SIM registration and did not offer the results intended. So, I will not describe her as competent merely for attempting a SIM registration or on the basis that she it is a woman,” George fumed.
He noted that as the minister currently in charge, he will do his bit and leave posterity to judge him on the outcomes of the impending SIM re-registration.

He also assured the public that the new process will be technology-driven, eliminating long queues and manual bottlenecks that previously frustrated users.
