Nana Sarpong Okumankumah I, has been installed Sanaahene (Treasurer) of Akoase by Osaberima Gyasi Boateng Aduako II, Chief of Akoase.

Known in private life as Mr. Lawrence Ohene Sarpong, he is 38 years and a Contractor by profession.

He schooled at the Akoase L/A school, St Thomas school in Accra, St. Joseph Technical Institute at Kwahu Tafo and currently the Chief Executive Officer of Bretuo Ba Construction Group in Accra.

At a grand durbar held to commemorate his enstoolment at Akoase in the Birim North District, Nana Okumankomah I, commended the indigenes for helping to maintain peace and unity in the area after 20 years of chieftaincy dispute that they faced.

The chaos, he said had hindered the development of the community and therefore promised to put in efforts to help uplift the image of the community to a befitting standard.

He said plans were far advanced to introduce the Sanaahene Educational Fund that would support brilliant but needy students in the community.

The support, he said would be in the form of scholarships and the provision of educational materials to beneficiary students so it could help to increase enrolment in the schools.

He expressed worry at the increasing rate of drug abuse and teenage pregnancy facing the youth in the area due to the mining activities.

Nana Okumankomah urged the government to pass laws against the abuse of drugs such as 'Tramol' by the youth aside that of the 'Indian Hemp' also known as 'wee'.

This, he said could help minimise those social vices in the community and the country at large.

Nana Okumankumah, therefore, called on the Birim North District Assembly to support the development of the town by tarring all accessible roads in the community to minimise the environmental hazards that they faced.

Osaberima Gyasi Boateng Aduako II, the Chief of Akoase entreated the newly enstooled Sanaahene to ensure transparency and be accountable to the people so as to earn their trust and support.
