Airtel employees raise funds for breast cancer awareness

Employees of Airtel, Ghana’s fastest growing network are embarking on hit the runway project to raise funds for their volunteering initiative for breast cancer awareness.

A statement issued in Accra by Mr Richard Ahiagble, Corporate Communications Manager and copied to the Ghana News Agency said Airtel Catwalk for Charity is an eagerly awaited event where underground buzzing young designers, make-up artists and Airtel employees would come together to raise funds in support of breast cancer awareness.

It said the event which has a two prong Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) objectives is to raise funds internally through Airtel employees, family and friends under the company's internal CSR campaign called Make Your Change (MYC).

It noted that the funds raised would be donated to not-for profit organisations working to raise awareness on breast cancer across the length and breadth of the country.

It added that the other objective of the initiative is to unearth young entrepreneurial talented designers such as Hush, Retro Eye Glasses by Tasha, Chocolate, Lakopué, Eyecandy, Kulaperry Outlook, Maison Hardmari, M&K Designs, Sika designs, MI Style, Threadex, Bits & Pieces, Hycia Turaquis and Event Factory who are supporting the event.

These designers have the unique opportunity to showcase their wear during the event. Complimenting these designers would be up and coming make-up artist such as Lamisi, Limaj and internationally known make up brand, Maybelline Newyork, the statement said.

It said the evening's highlight - the catwalk - would feature clothing designs from these designers and an exotic make up by the make-up artists.

Strutting the runway would be "supermodels" from Airtel Ghana who would be joined on the night by socialites, fashion representatives, selected VIP's to mingle, network, unwind and most especially raise funds for this worthy course.

Mrs Hannah Agbozo, Legal and Corporate Affairs Director, Airtel Ghana quoted, "we are using this event to raise funds to support breast cancer awareness in the country and to unearth young entrepreneurs in the fashion industry who strive to reach their potential.

This emphasises what Airtel Ghana believes in; to empower people to reach their maximum potential."

It added: "Our employees, the designers, make-up artistes, volunteers and models have been incredible - supporting us - all the way in organizing this diverse event.

“We hope that this initiative will bring people together in the spirit of raising funds towards amplifying breast cancer awareness while enjoying quality entertainment. We look forward to welcoming everyone who believes in this cause to the event on Friday," it said.

It noted that the unique event would be held at the forecourt of Airtel Ghana's Office (opposite FC Beauty Clinic, Ridge) on Friday, October 30, 2015 at 6: 30pm. Tickets are being sold for GH?15.00 cash and GH?10.00 though Airtel money to the nickname CSR.

“Get on board - support this cause to create awareness on breast cancer,” the statement said.
