Airlines suspend flights to US

Foreign airlines operating in Ghana on Tuesday suspended checking in US bound passengers following the closure of all American airports as a result of terrorist attacks on the two major cities of New York and Washington D.C.

Esi Annor Sackey, Country Manager of British Airways said the airline was suspending flights to the US indefinitely following the incident.

"We had to stop checking-in our passengers to US via London. Our head office in London is monitoring the situation on the ground and will advice us on what to do."

An official of the Swiss Air said the airline has put flights to the US on hold and advised passengers to the US via Zurich accordingly.

Ghana Airways, which flies direct from Accra to New York, had earlier announced a suspension of operations to the US.
