Air Force plane fails to take-off

Accra, August 21, GNA - Ghana Air Force F-27 plane carrying 44 passengers failed to take off at the end of the runway at the Kotoka International Airport.
There were no casualties but most of the passengers appeared traumatised.
The passengers were mainly delegates to the Liberian Peace Talks held in Accra, who were returning home.
They were the second batch of Liberian delegates. The first batch that left earlier in the day included Dr Mohamed Ibn Chambas, ECOWAS Executive Secretary, Generral Abdul Salami Abubakar, Chief Mediator in the Peace Talks and Loui Brown, Liberian Foreign Minister. Air Force Officials, who spoke to the Ghana News Agency, said in the course of the takeoff, the Pilot noticed a system failure and decided to abort the it and in the process the undercarriage collapsed and the aircraft came to a halt.
The Rescue Services of the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) and the Ghana Air Force reacted promptly and sent the victims to the Aviation Clinic for screening.
Members of the Management of GCAA, Air Force Commander, Air Vice Marshall Eddie Mantey, Captain Joe Boachie, Director-General of GCAA were at the end of the runway to observe the rescue mission. The runway at the KIA has since been closed down to all airlines to enable the disabled aircraft to be removed from the runway.
