Ahmed Suale Murder: Massive protest against Ghana Police today

Pressure group, Save the Nation for Future Leaders (STNFFL), is embarking on a peace walk today to demand from the Ghana Police Service status of the Ahmed Suale murder investigation.

The group announced this intention to the media in Parliament on Tuesday where they submitted a petition to the Speaker demanding re-imposition of the ban on small scale mining.

The walk, according to the group, has become imperative because of mixed information emanating from the police service on a suspect picked in the murder case.

President of Save the Nation, Kwadwo Atta Apeakorang, stated that Ghanaians are yearning to regain their trust in the police and have some semblance of security.

But it is difficult for that trust to build up because of conflicting information they keep putting into the public domain.

Atta Apeakorang noted that after the gruesome murder of Ahmed Suale, there was information the police had arrested and detained a suspect, which was confirmed by Suale’s brother.

According to him, not long afterwards the police issued a statement indicating the person had been released because he was a wrong suspect.

“But when the police arrested him, they claimed the suspect attempted to bribe them with GH?2,000.00, which they did not accept.”

“So, if he was the wrong suspect, what did he attempt to bribe the police for.”

“It is so confusing or is it that he gave a bigger amount that is why they allowed him to go,” he queried?

The demonstration, he said, is essentially for the Ghana police and the entire Ghanaian public to build the broken trust so information they put out would be trusted.

Save the Nation, he said, has already interacted with the acting Inspector General of Police (IGP), James Oppong-Boanuh, who has given his blessing for the match and would, therefore, be expecting their petition.

He questioned measures the police have put in place to halt the spate of murders in the country, which culminated in the murder of a female police officer some days ago and pleaded with the Ghana Police to be professional and truthful in their duties.

Atta Apeakorang disclosed that he has been threatened with a letter warning him to desist from talking about illegal mining but stressed nothing would stop him from speaking truth and demanding justice.

The walk will start from Kwame Nkrumah Circle in front of Ernest Chemist through the Ring Road to the Police Headquarters.

He appealed to the public but particularly journalists to join the march and show their support for a murdered colleague.

And indicated that notable groups that have expressed support for the peace walk include the family of Ahmed Suale, Tiger Eye P.I., the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) among others.
