The President of the Accra Zone of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission Elders' Association, known as Majlis Ansarullah, has urged the government to increase budgetary allocations for public children's homes and orphanages across the country.
He emphasized that this increase is crucial to enabling caregivers and managers of these facilities to provide the necessary care and support that children in these homes require.
Mustapha Salifu, President of the Association, made this appeal during a visit by members to the Osu Children's Home over the weekend, where they donated cash and assorted provisions to support the welfare of the residents.
He highlighted that the visit was inspired by Chapter 2, Verse 220 of the Quran, which calls on humanity to show kindness and compassion to orphans and the underprivileged.
He further stated that there is no more appropriate time for such acts of generosity than during the month of Ramadan, a period of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving to the needy and less fortunate.
An assistant social development officer at the Home, Mary Paintsil, who received the donation, expressed profound gratitude to the Association and encouraged other groups within society to emulate the noble example set by Majlis Ansarullah.
"We are very much grateful for these gestures," she said.
The Elders' Association comprises male members of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission aged 40 and above.
It is known as Majlis Ansarullah, meaning "Helpers of Allah," and the president or head of each zone is referred to as the Zonal Nazim.
