Ahiabu elected Presiding Member for Akatsi North

The Akatsi North District Assembly has retained Mr Patrick Ahiabu as its Presiding Member for a second term.

He was the sole candidate securing 12 votes, being two-third majority requirement of the 18-member house.

Mr Ahiabu’s membership of the current Assembly makes him a four-consecutive-term Assembly Member for Ave-Dakpa.

Mr James Gunu, District Chief Executive (DCE) in comments before and after the elections said all forms of by-partisan sentiments must be eschewed by all members to avoid drawing the development of the Assembly backward.

“Put out every personal and unnecessary politicking in the interest of the people we represent, who are expecting development from us, but not how robust you are.

“I hope you will not disappoint yourselves and the people who elected you above others to form the highest decision making body in the area, so we can begin taking and drawing delayed actions,” he said.

Mr Peter Nortsu-Kotoe, Member of Parliament for the area, and a former DCE and Assembly member, advised the members to thread slowly and learn the Assemblies’ Standing Orders for informed and productive debates.

Mr Ahiabu pledged to live up to expectation.
