President John Dramani Mahama, has reaffirmed the importance of innovation and technology in repositioning Ghana’s agricultural sector as a key engine for economic growth and long-term prosperity.
Speaking at the Ghana AgroTech Fair 2026, held on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, he noted that such initiatives serve a broader purpose beyond exhibitions by fostering collaboration across various sectors of the economy.
“Events such as this do more than just showcase machinery and technology; they connect ideas to enterprise, research to industry, and innovation to investment. In doing so, they help transform agriculture from a sector of survival into one of opportunity, productivity, and national prosperity,” he stated.

According to President Mahama, the fair comes at a pivotal moment in Ghana’s development trajectory, particularly as agriculture across the continent continues to be viewed largely through the narrow lens of subsistence and vulnerability.
“This AgroTech Fair comes at an important moment in Ghana’s development journey. Across Africa, agriculture has often been discussed only in terms of subsistence farming and vulnerability. But if properly structured, agriculture is one of the most powerful engines of transformation,” he said.
He further explained that agriculture should not be viewed solely in terms of farming activities, but rather as a multifaceted sector with far-reaching economic implications.
“Agriculture is not merely about cultivation; it is about productivity, value addition, industrial development, jobs, and exports. Increasingly, it is also about technology and innovation,” he added.
President Mahama also stressed the urgency of upgrading the entire agricultural value chain to fully harness its potential for national development.
“This fair reminds us that the future of agriculture lies not simply in expanding acreage, but in modernising the entire agricultural value chain, from farm to factory, from production to processing, and through logistics, packaging, and global marketing,” he said.
He concluded by applauding the efforts of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Agribusiness, the Ghana Exports-Import Bank, and other stakeholders for successfully organising the event, noting that it provides a valuable platform to advance agricultural technology and strengthen agribusiness development in Ghana.
