Agoo Hits the Newsstands

Mr. Kofi Sakyiamah, Chief Director, Ministry of Information and Presidential Affairs, launched a 52-page colour magazine "AGOO Magazine" on behalf of the Minister, Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey, on Wednesday in Accra.

The magazine that is a Ghana-Nigeria collaboration, covers interviews, fashion, music, sports, new productions among others and aims at educating, entertaining and informing readers about what is going on in the world. And the language used is a literal translation of both Ghanaian and southwestern Nigeria usage.

Mr. Obetsebi-Lamptey said the Ministry and government are ready to accept any additional medium to the information landscape in the country. "This does not only exhibit good governance but equally promotes the intellectual growth of the citizenry."

He however cautioned against the use of uncouth language that might defile the morals of readers.

"Excitement caused by the rich exchange of ideas and depth of information by the media should be encouraged. But what is to be discouraged are productions that do damage to our national identity, cultural values and the individual rights to privacy," he said.

He asked the publishers of AGOO magazine to uphold the highest standards in their production in order to sustain the magazine in Africa and the Diaspora and also promote African culture.

Mr. Kojo Bonsu, Publisher of AGOO Magazine, said the magazine would run quarterly and hoped to go monthly pending on the patronage.

He promised to increase the quality, style and volume of the magazine.

Mr. Andrew Enahoro, the Associate Publisher from Nigerian announced that a second launch would be held in Nigeria in March next year and called for support.

The first five copies were auctioned for ?7 million.
