The New Patriotic Party (New Patriotic Party) says it does not know the whereabouts of its Agona West Constituency Organiser, David Essandoh, popularly known as “Sam Toys,” following his reported arrest by armed men believed to be security operatives.
According to the NPP National Organiser, Henry Nana Boakye, widely known as Nana B, Essandoh was picked up by armed men who arrived in a Land Cruiser.
“I was at a meeting when calls started coming in from the Regional Chairman, Secretary and the Constituency, so I picked the call and they informed me David Essandoh had been picked up by 10 men in a Land Cruiser.
“As I speak to you this morning, we don’t know his whereabouts. Yesterday, I moved around just so I could see him but to no avail. We have contacted the CID, NIB and National Security but they are all saying they know nothing about the operation and that it was not their personnel who effected the arrest,” he remarked.
Nana Boakye described the arrest as swift and coordinated, noting that eyewitnesses were unable to take down the vehicle registration numbers.
“The arrest was so swift that the people around couldn’t even remember the number plates of the vehicles. But they were armed and masked,” he claimed.
Agona West NPP Organiser reportedly arrested
The NPP National Organiser also questioned the basis for the arrest, arguing that public commentary on issues such as power outages commonly referred to as “dumsor” is widespread and not criminal.
“Who should be arrested for making comments on dumsor? Who doesn’t talk about dumsor? Is that not the reality Ghanaians are going through?” he asked.
Nana Boakye further revealed that he had contacted a Criminal Investigations Department (CID) officer, who allegedly linked the issue to a billboard incident.
“He said they had gone to check the billboard, and it was not about dumsor. It was rather a message celebrating Mahama on March 6, so he is guilty of publication of false news,” he recounted.
However, he expressed concern over the conflicting accounts, noting that the CID was said to have initiated the process but later denied involvement in the arrest.
“The invitation was extended by the CID and after his arrest, they are saying they don’t know about it,” he added.
The party says it intends to file an official complaint with the police over the incident as it continues to demand clarity on the whereabouts of its constituency organiser.
Eyewitnesses say Essandoh was reportedly picked in a “Rambo-style” operation involving armed personnel from the Ghana Police Service and the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI), over a Facebook post.
