Agomanya market to be developed into a modern market facility – MCE

The Agomanya market in the Lower Manya Krobo municipality of the Eastern region will soon receive a massive facelift, Municipal Chief Executive for Lower Manya Krobo, Simon Kweku Tetteh has disclosed.

The market, arguably one of the busiest hubs for commercial activities in the eastern region will be developed into a modern market facility with 300 Lockable stores, 2500 Sheds, a Police post, Crèche, Banking Hall, etc.

MCE for Lower Manya Krobo who announced this when he took his turn at the district’s first ever ‘meet the press’ series at the parish hall of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church at Agomanya said Lower Manya Krobo has been selected among 25 Municipalities in the country to benefit from a 100million US dollars Ghana Secondary Cities support Programme with the Agomanya market earmarked as a strategic beneficiary of the municipality’s share of the facility.

The MCE prioritized three key areas in his presentation including development projects, flagship programs of the government and the upcoming referendum in December, 2019.

While the assembly puts in a lot of strenuous efforts aimed at improving on the performance of pupils in the BECE to enable them access the free Senior High School Education policy, Mr. Tetteh said he has revived the Municipal Education Oversight Committee which has already engaged all Circuit Supervisors, Head teachers and teachers as well as staff of the Education Directorate in the Municipality to brainstorm and strategize in order to address the poor trend of BECE performance in the municipality.

The assembly chief who presented descriptive and graphic evidence of various developmental projects by the assembly said security in the municipality has generally improved after the residents-PDS dispute in May, 2019, thanks to the efforts of the Municipal Security Committee (MUSEC).

He said the Security Committee had to issue a communique to regulate the way and manner funeral processions were conducted along the principal streets of the municipal to forestall the possible re-occurrence of an accident at Manyakpongunor area that lead to the death of a bullion Van Driver.

The assembly has also undertaken several projects including the installation of over 1000 Street Lights, visitation of all the 31 Electoral Areas as well as selected major Communities in the Municipality, provision of new office complex for the Odumase district police headquarters, construction of office complex for the electoral commission, construction of a district office for the ECG, among others.

Some completed projects include a 3-unit classroom block for Yonguase, 6-unit classroom block for Odumase Anglican schools, classroom blocks for Oborpa Djekiti KG, a 6-unit classroom block for Yokwenor Primary and a 3-unit classroom block for Akosombo Ketem.

Some projects begun by the previous administration which have been completed under the current assembly include a 9-unit teachers Bungalow at Oborpa East, offices for Odumase Police Command, a 3-unit classroom block at Agormanya Islamic Junior High School, dormitory for the Odumase Nursing Training College and a dining hall for Krobo Girls Senior High School.

Furthermore, the MCE promised to complete other projects which are at various levels of completions across the municipality.

Additionally, some 1, 297 persons including NABCO personnel, Youth in Afforestation Program, Youth Employment Agency were employed while other persons were trained in various vocations and persons with disability who received various economic empowerment aid.

On the referendum, Mr. Simon Kweku Tetteh appealed to the media to use their various media to educate the public and called on the general public to vote ‘YES’ in the referendum.

On his part, Deputy Eastern regional minister and NPP parliamentary candidate for Lower Manya, Samuel Nuertey Ayertey urged residents to support the good works of the MCE.

Such support, he added will smoothen and enhance the numerous developmental projects that are currently ongoing in the municipality.

Other areas the DCE touched on included financial performance, support to community, collaboration with development partners, decentralization of scholarship application service, government flagship programmes, social intervention programmes, youth development programmes, priority areas for 2020, health, water and sanitation, local economic development, employment creation, social intervention and rural electrification.

The Meet-the-Press series mandates all Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) to enable residents and other stakeholders participate effectively in the activities of the Assemblies.

Deputy Eastern regional minister and NPP parliamentary candidate for Lower Manya, Samuel Nuertey Ayertey, NPP party executives, the Municipal Coordinating Director, Presiding Member for the Assembly, Awuley Mensah and various Heads of Department, were present at the event.
