Over 500 Tarkwa youth demonstrated to voice displeasure over Goldfields' contract mining decision Over 500 Tarkwa youth demonstrated to voice displeasure over Goldfields' contract mining decision

Over five hundred youth from Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipality and adjoining communities in the Western Region this morning hit the streets to demonstrate against Goldfields Company Limited.

Addressing the demonstrators to present a petition to President Akufo Addo, leader of the demonstrators, Frank Woode said mining communities especially those in Tarkwa have been taking for cheated and for too long hence calling on government to call Goldfields to order.

The demonstration is to register their displeasure at the mining company’s decision to put its Tarkwa mine under contract mining.

Even though Goldfields Company Limited has offered several reasons for their decision to go under contract mining, the Concerned Youth of Tarkwa say information on the company’s website contradicts the position of the company.
