African-American couple undergo traditional marriage at Panafest

Elmina (C/R), July 28, GNA - An African-American couple attending the Sixth Pan-African-Historical Theatre Festival (PANAFEST), Mr Anthony Browder and Ms Janice Little John, were on Sunday, joined together as man and wife in traditional marriage at a ceremony at Elmina. Nana Kodwo Conduah VI, Omanhene of the Edina Traditional Area in whose palace the ceremony took place, acted as father of the 49-year-old bride while the groom had the chief of Ampenyi, Nana Takyi Akyin IV, as his father. The couple, dressed in Kente with the bride sporting a 'Tekuwa' a popular traditional Fanti women's hairdo, exchanged rings and were given the names Nana Kofi Mensah and Nana Conduaba. They were fed with the traditional meal of mashed yams with boiled eggs as well as fufu and groundnuts soup in which many other African-Americans present also partook. The couple danced to the traditional drums and told newsmen that they would organise a party for their friends and relatives when they go back home.
