Africa, Ghana grateful to Du Bois – Bawumia

Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has eulogised the late Dr William Edward Burghardt Du Bois indicating that “Africa and Ghana is eternally grateful to such a great man”.

He made the comments as he joined in the Celebration and Wreath Laying ceremony for the 150th anniversary of the late Dr Du Bois on Monday, 19 February 2018 at the Du Bois Memorial Centre, Cantonments, Accra.

Dr Bawumia was of the view that: “Dr Du Bois was a father of Pan-African movement who led the fight for Africa's liberation and fought for a united Africa to solidarise all people of African descent.

“He made Ghana his home and helped in the socio-political development of independent Ghana.

“His coming back home in 1961 at the age of 93 was a recognition of the clear belief he had that the emancipation of Africa was very linked to the reconnection of the African diaspora with the African continent”.
