Member of Parliament for Effutu, Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin, has donated over GH¢200,000 to about 200 widows in his constituency as part of efforts to support them to make a living.

The donation, made during a community outreach event held in Effutu, brought tears of joy to many beneficiaries, who described the gesture as both timely and life-changing.

Several widows, some of whom have been without their spouses for decades, offered heartfelt prayers and praised him for his compassion and dedication.

According to a report by adomonline.com on July 21, 2025, Afenyo-Markin said the initiative forms part of his broader commitment to social welfare and empowering vulnerable groups in Effutu.

“This is not a one-time gesture. We are committed to supporting our mothers and widows who continue to play vital roles in our communities despite the challenges they face,” the report said.

Some of the recipients lauded Afenyo-Markin describing him as a ‘beacon of hope’ for the vulnerable.

They expressed confidence in his potential to lead the country as President in the future.

The event forms part of the MP’s ongoing development agenda, which include interventions in education, healthcare, and social protection aimed at uplifting the well-being of residents across the constituency.
