Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has come under criticism from former Tamale Central MP Inusah Fuseini after alleging that some judges serve the interests of political “paymasters”, a claim Fuseini argues damages both the lawmaker’s reputation and the integrity of the legal profession.

Speaking on JoyNews on November 29, 2025, Inusah Fuseini argued that the Minority Leader should have used the proper legal avenues instead of attacking the judiciary in public.

“Afenyo-Markin should be on his way to the General Legal Council, not because he’s the Minority Leader, but because he’s a lawyer. He has scandalised himself and his profession,” Inusah Fuseini said.

'What kind of kangaroo court is this?' – Minority reacts to Kpandai election rerun

When asked if Afenyo-Markin’s comments could be justified by proof of misconduct, Fuseini insisted that any of such evidence must be submitted through the formal disciplinary process.

“If he has facts about a judge being paid, he should go there to show them. The facts will be his defense. But he cannot scandalise the courts in the way he has done as a lawyer,” he stated.

Afenyo-Markin’s comments followed the Tamale High Court’s decision to annul the 2024 parliamentary election results in Kpandai and order a re-election within 30 days.

Reacting on November 26, 2025, the Minority Leader lashed out at the judiciary, describing its actions as “shameful” and claiming some judges were working for political “paymasters.”

He told journalists in Parliament that the conduct of the courts “has the tendency of destroying our peaceful republic” and added that he is prepared to face any contempt proceedings.
