Aduman School launches its 40th anniversary celebration

Kumasi, Dec 19, GNA - Dr Steve Sobotie, the Principal of College of Technology Education of the University of Education Winneba (UEW), Kumasi, has said all stakeholders in education and members of the school community needed to have ''a large dose of discipline'' to ensure quality education and nation building.

He said with integrity, "We should be able to have good morals and to respect school authorities, desist from hooliganism, take part in all school activities, avoid examination malpractices and be good stewards of school and government property".

Dr Sobotie was speaking on the theme, "Quality Education Through Discipline " at the launch of the 40th anniversary celebration of Aduman Secondary School in Kumasi on Friday.

The Principal said he was optimistic that if discipline were inculcated in stakeholders, the nation would have citizens who have acquired quality education and citizens who possess real discipline and integrity.

He stressed the need for the Ghana Education Service (GES) to ensure that teachers were not transferred to deprived rural areas as a disciplinary measure.

Mr Martin Yaw Mensah, the Headmaster of Aduman Secondary School, said the school, an offshoot of the erstwhile Aduman Training College, started with 80 students in 1965.

The school now has a student population of 1,252 made up of 730 males and 522 females, 60 tutors including six past students and 66 non-teaching staff.

Mr Mensah said the academic performance of the school has been improving steadily over the years and that the school has also been doing well in the field of sports.

Mr Yaw Boakye-Yiadom, the President of the Past Students Association, said the association would build a girls' dormitory to be named after Nana Basare, the late chief of Aduman through whose efforts the school was established and would honour the best student among the final year students annually.
