Adom Otchere got it wrong on 'Nkrumah's election' comment - Kweku Baako

The Editor in Chief of the New Crusading Guide Newspaper, Kwaku Baako Junior has stated that Kwame Nkrumah won the 1960 election defeating his bitter rival Dr. JB Danquah.

Contrary to claims by Paul Adom Otchere host of Good Evening Ghana that Ghana’s first president Dr Kwame Nkrumah never won any Presidential election in the country, Mr Baako says the first president did not only win a presidential election but also defeated his biggest rival at the time, JB Danquah in the April 27, 1960, Presidential election.

This was contained in a Facebook post Mr. Baako put out on Friday.

The Managing Editor of the Insight Newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Junior earlier sought to defray the comments made by Paul Adom Otchere.

According to Mr. Pratt, the Osagyefo remains the first President of Ghana and the man who won independence for the country.

Paul got it wrong! He failed to research adequately into what went into the Constitutional Plebiscite of 1960.

Two things: There was the Plebiscite proper (Referendum for whether or not Ghana should become a Republic) and secondly, a PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION between Nkrumah and Danquah as to who would become the President of the Republic.

If the Plebiscite or Referendum went in favour of transforming Ghana from a CONSTITUTIONAL MONARCHY into a REPUBLIC! Paul obviously missed the HYBRID NATURE of the CONSTITUTIONAL PLEBISCITE of 1960!

He should admit his error on this aspect of his historical recollection and move on! We all get it wrong occasionally! No fatal injury!!
