Addo-Kufuor Donates Books to Constituency

Dr. Kwame Addo-Kufuor, Minister of Defence and Acting Interior Minister has presented over 3000 books worth several millions of cedis to schools in the Manhyia constituency, of which he is Member of Parliament.

The books, including Mathematics, English, Geography, Science and Environmental Studies books will be shared among 18 basic schools in the constituency.

The Minister expressed gratitude to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Days Saints for their support in making the donation possible.

"I hope that both teachers and pupils would take good care of the books so that they can serve the present and future intake of pupils in our schools," he said.

He assured his constituents that he would make every effort to support the development of education in the constituency to ensure excellence in the academic and moral upbringing of children.

Dr. Addo-Kufuor mentioned some of the difficulties facing the educational sector including poor and inadequate facilities, lack of teachers, lack of amenities and weak management, which for the past years have lead to poor performance of pupils particularly at the basic level.

He said the government is mindful of these problems and gave the assurance that the government would systematically address them through the sector Ministry. "The government fully realises the need to strengthen education at the basic level as a sure way of addressing the human resource development of this country," the Minister said.

He called on individuals and organisations to lend a hand in the educational reform to ensure that the dreams of the Free, Compulsory and Universal Basic Education (FCUBE) become a reality.
