Adaklu NPP declaration of support for Akufo-Addo is a hoax

Nicholas Amafu, Adaklu Constituency Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has said a declaration of support for Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo by constituency executives was a hoax.

A statement issued and copied to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) said only a selected few met and arranged that declaration and this should be ignored.

On October 6 Mr Raybon Evans Anyadi, the Adaklu Constituency Chairman, called a press conference at Adaklu-Abuade and declared that constituency and polling station executives had endorsed Nana Akufo-Addo as the presidential candidate of the NPP ahead of the October 18 primary.

“We want to make it clear that the said press conference had the blessing of only four constituency executives and representatives from five polling stations out of the 36,” the statement said.

Mr Amafu said some of the people introduced to journalists as executives of the NPP in the constituency were in fact not executives.

He said Mr Anyadi was an “embattled” chairman as a vote of no confidence by 75 per cent of the polling station executives was pending at Regional Office of the Party.

Mr Amafu said Mr Anyadi therefore could not have got the support of those he claimed empowered him to make that declaration.

He advised that such moves should be avoided to give Nana Akufo-Addo a clean-sheet to campaign in the constituency.
