An Achimota School Senior High School Senior Housemaster, Emmanuel Hanson, has threatened legal action against a former student and her mother following a police forensic investigation which concluded that allegations of “sextortion” made against him were unsupported by any evidence.

The controversy stems from an incident in November 2025 when Hanson confiscated a mobile phone from Musah Hafsatu Osmanu while she was still a student at Achimota School, in accordance with the school’s regulations governing the possession of such devices on campus.

After completing her West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) examinations and leaving the school, Osmanu contacted Hanson on December 28, 2025, requesting the return of the phone.

When he informed her that the device had already been handed over to the appropriate school authorities, the exchange escalated. Shortly afterwards, Hanson received a call from a woman identifying herself as Osmanu’s mother, Daayimatu Abdallah, followed by an audio message containing threats directed at him.

Hanson subsequently reported the threatening communication to the Achimota Police Station. It was during the police inquiry that Osmanu and her mother first alleged that Hanson had demanded sexual favours through WhatsApp messages as a condition for returning the confiscated phone.

Printed screenshots purportedly showing such conversations were presented to the police and later circulated widely on social media and various Achimota School online forums, accompanied by claims that Mr Hanson had been arrested and disgraced.

Seeking to establish the authenticity of the alleged messages, Hanson petitioned the Cybercrime Unit of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service and voluntarily submitted his mobile device for forensic examination.

According to the police investigative report dated March 11, 2026, the analysis found no WhatsApp conversation whatsoever between Hanson and the MTN number attributed to Osmanu.

The report states that the forensic examination “determined no WhatsApp conversation between the complainant (Emmanuel Hanson) and user of MTN number … (Musah Hafsatu Osmanu),” effectively undermining the authenticity of the screenshots that had formed the basis of the allegations.

Following the release of the forensic findings, Hanson has indicated that he intends to pursue legal action over what he describes as fabricated accusations that have caused significant reputational harm.

His lawyer, Emmanuel Dei-Tumi Jr of the law firm Kulendi@Law, stated that his client is considering all legal remedies available under Ghanaian law and expects the police to investigate the origin and dissemination of the alleged screenshots.

The development is likely to intensify scrutiny over the circulation of unverified allegations on social media, particularly where such claims have the potential to damage professional reputations before the completion of formal investigations.
