Accra to host Leadership Enrichment Summit

All is set for the opening of a two-day International Conference on Leadership Enrichment scheduled for Thursday, May 14 - 15.

Organised by Translead Consult (TC) and Eric Kwapong Ministry (EKM), the summit, which is on the theme: "Thriving Global Leadership in an uncertain terrain and Access to Capital,” with the Mission: Re-building Ghana through synergy within the private sector in partnership with public sector”.

The Leadership Enrichment is to bring together all decision and policy makers in government and business, Chief Executive Officers (CEOs), middle level leaders and managers in business, corporate, secular, traditional, political, government, church and social spheres to build leadership capacity in their private, personal and professional lives, as well as to enrich their spirituality in the context of Christian worship.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency Bishop Eric Kwapong, the CEO of TC and EKM said the theme had been carefully chosen to bring into focus the need for visionary and transformational leadership as an answer to Africa's development objectives.

He said the summit would seek to redefine leadership, and to empower participants to create wealth by developing transformational leadership attitude at all levels of society; especially the private sector.

“The next most powerful force, apart from the Church of Jesus Christ, is the private sector and not the politician,” he remarked.

He said leadership was recognised as key to any country's development effort; stating that “indeed countries that have developed have always been associated with one great leader at some point in their country's history.

“Today, leadership is not centered on an individual, but a critical mass of leaders in all spheres of societal development”.

He said there was the need for good and quality leadership at all levels of Ghana's development, be it governance and political leadership, business leadership, institutional, legislative and even church and religious leadership.

“This critical mass is needed for any country's development, and Ghana is no exception,” Bishop Kwapong stated.

He said the summit would create the platform and space for a renewed intense conversation on this important subject of developing and building capacity for Leadership, particularly in Ghana and Africa as a whole.

He observed that leaders in all categories of professions and endeavours dealt with difficult, challenging and stressful issues, and the many attendant challenges associated with them.

Bishop Kwapong said the Leadership Enrichment therefore served as a platform for leaders in all categories and spheres to build capacity and enrich spirituality in the general context of worship.

He said the summit aimed to provide an opportunity for stakeholders, including the private sector, government, churches, to discuss issues of leadership in the country and how this could be harnessed to bring development to the people.

“The Leadership enrichment seminar is not a talk shop, but will be about sharing ideas, building relationships and developing a common agenda for leadership enrichment in the country,” he said.

Bishop Kwapong pointed out that his passion for the subject of leadership, and his desire to impact society with his faith, motivated him to organise the programme.

Activities for the summit include timely conversation among business leaders, policy makers, political leaders, church leaders, legislators and eventually among Ghanaians as a whole; on how Ghana can improve its socio-economic development through quality leadership that cuts across the entire spectrum of our society.

Speakers include Lucy Quist, the Managing Director of Airtel Ghana, Mike Nyinaku, founder and CEO of BEIGE Capital and Yonny Kulendi, a private legal practitioner.

The event is being organised by TC and EKM, in collaboration with institutions, such as the Ministry of Trade and Industry, the Association of Ghana Industries, the Full Gospel International Businessmen Fellowship and the Ghana Union of Traders Association.
