Accra major warns gossips to keep off

Accra, March 4 GNA - Mr Stanley Nii Adjiri Blankson, Mayor of Accra, on Thursday warned gossips and talebearers to stay clear from him since he would not tolerate them.

The new Chief Executive, therefore, cautioned the staff of the Assembly that his administration would not countenance sycophancy, peddling of falsehood about innocent staff, maligning of people to win favours and unnecessary gossips.

Mr Blankson was speaking after he had been sworn in as the Mayor of Accra.

He said he would be ruthless with anyone who would attempt to subvert the collective effort of the Assembly to transform Accra, adding that he intended to adopt a radical approach to solve the myriad problems facing Accra.

He said in the course of this long and radical exercise he might inadvertently through momentary emotions, step on some toes and asked for forgiveness should that happen.

Mr Blankson appealed to the Assembly Members to give chiefs and traditional rulers in the Greater Accra Region due respect and cooperate with them to transform Accra.

"We should learn from the achievements of the Asantehene, Okyenhene and others who have been trying to raise resources to improve their Kingdoms and the lives of their people"

He implored AMA staff to maximize their job performance since new measures would be put in place to check the unscrupulous manipulations of some members of the Assembly.

Sheikh Ibrahim Cudjoe Quaye, Greater-Accra Regional Minister, pledged his personal support for the Mr Blankson.

He advised the new Mayor to discard certain negative tendencies such as self-ego, self-seeking, self-interest and self-aggrandizement since these did not promote teamwork.

"Whilst we are basking in the euphoria of your assumption of duty and the overwhelming support given to you by the honourable Assembly Members, I wish to draw your attention to what I said last week. "I said that the AMA job is not an easy one; it is really a tough one and I also said that you are a tough no nonsense man and, therefore, we believe that you can do the job" he said.

Among dignitaries at the function were; Alhaji Rashid Bawa, Minister of State in charge of Youth and Sports, Mr Nat Nunoo-Amarteifio, former Mayor of Accra.
