Accra Psychiatric Hospital to Send Inmates Homes

About 400 out of the 1,200 inmates of the Accra Psychiatric hospital would be repatriated to their various homes because they are now well. According to the medical director of the Accra Psychiatric hospital, Dr. Kwasi Osei who disclosed this to our correspondent, Bernard Quanson, the healthy inmate?s parents or family members would be contacted by the hospital to prepare their minds before the exercise.

Dr. Osei said some of the inmates have lived at the hospital for more than 20 to 30 years.The medical director of Accra psychiatric hospital, Dr. Kwasi Osei noted that congestion of the inmates is the main problem at the hospital.

He said the hospital also has a problem of inadequate human resource in terms of doctors and nurses. He said since the Accra Psychiatric Hospital is the ?Mother of all Psychiatric hospitals in Ghana, with the inadequate staff, the few workers out there go through intense stress daily
