The Chief Executive of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), Mohammed Nii Adjei Sowah, has held a consultative meeting with the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) to deliberate on the completion of the Salaga Market.

The meeting, held with Dr Kwame Addo-Kufuor, SSNIT Board Chairman, Dr John Ofori-Tenkorang, Director-General, SSNIT and Kofi Osafo-Maafo, Deputy Director-General, SSNIT, explored various strategies for completing the all-important Salaga Market project, including the solicitation of private sector participation.

The Salaga Market project was commenced in October 2016 as a joint venture between SSNIT, AMA and Melchia Investments Limited.

The project has stalled, and it’s the desire of the parties to resuscitate and complete the project.

In view of the strategic location of the market in Accra Central and its importance in fostering commercial activity in the area, the Salaga Market, when completed, will reinvigorate commercial activities and provide employment opportunities for the youth, as well as the men and women of the area.
